Well, this was probably my last year to go to girls camp for a while. I had a good run (4 years). The girls this year were the best bunch of girls! (no offense to previous years...lol) They had the most spirit, they were the loudest, and they got along GREAT!!! No DRAMA!!! Ok...for those of you that really know me, you know that I did CouponSense about 4 or 5 years ago. Well, I had to stop because I couldn't afford it. I know that sounds weird, but between the monthy dues and the 4 Sunday Newspapers, I just couldn't do it. 9th Anniversary

So yesterday was Mine and Aaron's 9th Anniversary. Saturday night Aaron and I went out to dinner. We went to the Brazilian Bull Steakhouse in Ahwatukee.

They bring out all these different kinds of meat (16 to be exact) on skewers and cut it right onto your plate. The Roast Beef was my favorite! :) They also had fresh pineapple skewers...everytime Aaron saw the pineapple he would turn the cylinder to green. YUM!

This is the appetizer/salad bar. They have everything from salad to calamari and crab legs to potato salad.

Aaron tried the calamari and octopus, but it wasn't his favorite. :)

They brought Spanikopita and Rice Balls around, too. They were SO good!! The service was excellent! They wouldn't leave you alone unless your cylinder was on red. It was pretty pricey ($31 per person...drinks and dessert not included)...but worth it for something special!

We also decided that next year we should do an Alaskan Cruise for our 10th. YEAH!!!

After dinner we went to Nielsen's Frozen Custard...YUM.

(That's one of the places Aaron took me on our first date.) :)

Girls' Night Out

On Friday the 14th, Aaron, Brett, Zac, Cameron, Dad, James, Ben, and Hunter all went to Dad's Fathers and Sons. So all the girls got together at Village Inn and had dinner (thanks Dad!).

And then after the dinner Chey and I went to see Letters to Juliet. LOVED IT!!!

It was a good night!

Gila Valley Temple

A week and a half ago, the family and Cecilia went to the open house of the Gila Valley Temple. We pulled the kids out of school early and headed to Pima. We got there a few minutes early, but they let us go ahead anyway. Yay... no waiting! The temple is beautiful! It is very small compared to the Mesa Temple, but it is still The House of The Lord. Beautiful work will go on in that temple, just like all the rest in the world. We are so lucky to have 3 temples in Arizona and 2 more on the way! Wow!! After we got through at the temple we stopped at Taylor Freeze (a little mom and pop joint) to eat. Everyone was happily full as we headed for home. :) When we were at Taylor Freeze I picked up The Beehive paper. It had a whole section on the Gila Valley Temple. It had facts about the 3 temples that we already have built, which I found interesting. The facts are as follows...

Mesa Temple:
First temple in AZ. Seventh operating temple in the world.
Dedicated in Oct. 1927 by Heber J. Grant
Mesa Temple was the first to present the endowment session in a language other than English. The first Spanish session was in 1945.
The Mesa Temple has a total floor area of 113,916 sq. feet.

Remembering June Gordon

June Gordon was such a beautiful person. She loved everyone! She lived her life to the fullest and her kids and grand kids were her pride and joys. She was a feisty little thing. :) She loved anything that wasn't good for her and she enjoyed it all. She served everyone in any way that she could. She was like a mom to me (and many others, too!). She was always there with a smile on her face. She loved my kids like they were her own grandchildren. They even called her Grandma June (per her request). :) She was an amazing person and she will be missed greatly!

I like the quote "When we forget ourselves, we often do things that are remembered". That is Grandma June!

So, a few of my Young Women asked me to do some Sr. Pics for them. I told them I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL! :) But they wanted me to do it anyway. I did the first "session" on Tuesday. (Don't I SOUND like a true professional? LOL!!!) I took some of Kaylee and she did a great job! We had a ton of fun, too. We went to the Mesa Temple and the Mesa Arts Center. Here are a few of my faves. I will take her again and Jacque, too. I LOVE these girls! More pics to come.

Today, after 3 1/2 years, I was released from my calling as YW President. I have known for about a month and was (I thought) ready for it. Bishop found me in the Library this morning and told me he was going through with it today. He asked, "Are you ready for this?" Of course I was! Well, about 15 minutes later as he stood up there and announced it, I started to cry. I honestly didn't expect it to be this hard. I pulled myself together and then Mandy came into the library after sacrament and gave me a hug. I just about lost it again, but was pretty busy so I had things to keep my mind off of it. I walked down to Primary to deliver some papers and Lacey gave me a hug. Boy! You guys know how to make a girl cry! :) After I finished up in the library, I decided to go home for a few minutes to pull myself together. I was walking out the door and Brother Cronin was there...here we go again! I talked to him for a few minutes and by the time we were done I was bawling. I couldn't keep it in anymore. I came home and got a box of tissues (I knew we would need them!). The lesson in YW today was on Temples. What a beautiful way to go out! Heidi did a fabulous job (even though she was rushed so we could bear testimonies). Lindsey got up and bore her testimony and then Kalia, and then I went up. What a strong spirit in the room!! I don't think there was a dry eye in the room. I will miss these girls and leaders tremendously, but I know that the leaders that were called were inspired choices and they will do great. But it is hard letting go. For some of these young women I have been the only one they've known, and the others I have seen grow into beautiful young ladies. I am grateful for the opportunity I have had to be associated with these girls and leaders. I think more often than not they have been the ones to teach me. I know that my Heavenly Father loves me. I know that He lives. Jesus IS the Christ! The gospel has been such a wonderful part of my life. I don't even want to think about where I would be without it. I love my Ward!!!! There are THE most AMAZING people in it! Bishop Lamb is truly called of God and he loves us and prays for us all. It has been a pleasure working so closely with him over the last 3 1/2 years! I am grateful for the support and the friendship of my ward family. I have a testimony of this gospel and I just want all my young women to know that! (And you will always be MY young women!!) I love you all! :)

I am truly grateful for my husband and all the support he has given me over the years. I am grateful for the times he listened to my worry and ventings (is there such a word?). He is my rock. I could not have gotten through this without him. I am so glad that I will be able to spend more time with him. I love you Aaron!

So, there is my bitterweet moment for today...

Planting Seeds of Service

Yesterday, April 15, the stake YW went to the Mesa Temple to plant flowers. They weren't seeds, but I think some seeds of service were planted in the girls. They were amazing! I didn't hear anyone asking what to do or where to go, they just did it.

Brett's Glasses

So on Wed. I took Brett into the eye dr. and they said it would be 7-10 days for his glasses. We got a call today and they were in. I think that was the fastest glasses have ever come in for us. Anyway, he still wasn't very happy about it, but he has them none the less. (And he BETTER wear them!!) :) Well, here's the pic. He would only smile for one, so it will have to do. :)

Brett Needs Glasses

So I took Brett to the eye dr. today and found out he needs glasses. Boy is he NOT happy about it! He is nearsighted a little, so the only time he needs to wear them is when he goes to school or when he watches tv. Not that big of a deal, right? WRONG!! He is moping and griping and pouting about it. When we were picking out frames, he was kinda being a stink. The lady working there came over to help him pick some out. She picked up a pair that I suggested (that he HATED!) and he decided to go with those. He was adamant about thick black frames. (funny kid!) There was a pair with wire frames that looked SO good on him, but he would have none of that. Maybe because I suggested it? lol Anyway... I'm sure by the time they get done, he'll have come to terms with it and it won't be a big deal anymore. (I hope!)

I don't know why, but that kid fights me on everything! Hopefully one day he'll outgrow that. :)

Child Crisis Center

So about a year ago we (the YW) made some fleece blankets and had yet to deliver them. So Sister Sol made a couple of phone calls and we were able to deliver them to the Child Crisis Center on W. 9th St. here in Mesa. We all showed up (10 girls, 7 YW leaders, and Bishop) and they gave us a little presentation. They have been open since 1981 and see about 350-500 kids a year. They started out as a permanent shelter, but have since gone temporary. These people are AMAZING!! They have a resource center for anyone to go into to find things and they have several other buildings, too. After the presentation all the group that was 16 or older was taken on a tour. Sister Bowman and Sister Williams stayed with the younger girls in the presentation room. We got to see some of the kids and really get a feel for the place. I could tell just how much these workers love what they do. The kids were cute, too. It was quiet time, so they were all watching movies and calming down before bedtime. The kids are split into 3 groups. There are the Tiny Tots (ages birth to 3), and then there are the Middlers (ages 4-7) and then there are the Big Kids (ages 8-11). They are able to have kids up to the age of 15, but they try not to have any that old because "They come with their own set of problems at that age" (our tour guide's words, not mine) :)

Anyway, I have a newfound respect for people that do this on a daily basis. There is so much work put into it. They are AMAZING people!!

It really was a testimony builder for a few of our YW as well. One of them posted on Facebook how grateful she was for her family and how much she loved them. It really opens your eyes when you realize how much you have compared to others! :)

Easter on the Levee

When I was a little girl we often had Easter in Louisiana. We would go spend the night at Maw-Maw Crum's house, the Easter Bunny would bring us our goodies, and then after we woke up and got ready we would go to Aunt Ann's house. I remember all the men (and probably some of the women too) would load up in the back of a pick up truck and go down to the levee to hide the eggs. They would come back and pick us up and we would go find them. I don't know why, but this year I have really missed this. We quit doing it when I was a little girl, but I can still picture it like it was yesterday.

This isn't THE levee, but an idea of what I was talking about. And for those of you who don't know what a levee is...it is basically an embankment to keep a river from flooding the area.

Easter Weekend

Well, this weekend was General Conference. I usually really enjoy it, but this weekend I was too busy to really get into it. I listened to it while I was doing other things, but it wasn't the same. :( I have decided to read the entire Ensign from cover to cover when it comes next month.

Yesterday I went to Kirsten's (Aaron's cousin) baby shower. She got a ton of cute stuff and I am really excited for her. Little Ollie is growing and doing well . Yay Kirsty! :) After the baby shower, I came home and listened to Conference as I sewed hair bows (yo-yos). I showed Chey how to do it, and she hasn't stopped yet! She even sewed quite a few for her cousins Savannah and Haley and even a few for Aunt Jennifer.

We had lunch at Mom and Dad's house, watched the last session of Conference and then had the Easter Egg hunt. The little kids had a blast. We had a few minor incidents, but it turned out pretty well for the most part.

New Year, New Commitment

Ok...it's been 9 months and I'm back! A lot has happened, namely, Zac's 10th bday, Cheyenne's 14th bday, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, Brett's 13th bday, and Cameron's 7th bday. Now, I've told you all about them, so I can move on. :)

I also started Weight Watcher's again. I've been on it for 8 weeks and am down 14 pounds. Yay me! I will keep you posted on my progress.

I have committed myself to be a better blogger, but I'm not promising anything! LOL

I can't believe my Baby is 6!!! We had his birthday party on Erika's birthday. They were such good sports about it! We had shish-kabobs for dinner (look on Erika's blog for the pic) and cake and ice cream. Cameron invited his best buddy Trey and they had a blast! Cameron really enjoyed all his presents and he loved having everyone over just for him! Thanks everyone!!! Cameron and Erika sharing a special moment after the festivities.

Cameron's 1st Lost Tooth

So, the day of Brett's birthday, Aaron and I were out and about getting last minute things done for the party. The kids were cleaning the back yard and the house. We came home and Cameron was visibly upset. I asked him what was wrong and he showed me the hole in his mouth where his tooth used to be. I asked where it was and he said, " I lost it in the grass and now the Tooth Fairy won't give me any money!" I was trying so hard not to laugh...it was too cute! That night after Brett's party, I had him draw a picture of a tooth and I wrote the Tooth Fairy a note. Needless to say, he woke up the next morning to a dollar!

Brett's 12th Birthday

I cannot believe that Brett turned 12 last week! His birthday was on a Saturday, so they were able to ordain him to the office of a Deacon the next day. It was so awesome! He is way excited about passing the sacrament and I hope he takes it as seriously as he should. We were able to have his birthday party on his birthday this year. He invited his good friend David and they had a grand old time. We got him his tent, sleeping bag, and mat for all his campouts he will be going on.

And I also made him his camping cake. I felt it was pretty appropriate for a 12 year old scout!

Pinewood Derby

Zac had a Pinewood Derby back in Jan. Every Year he gets the "Flat Tire" Award because his car has always gone the slowest. This year he placed third... he was so stoked about it!! Eric was first and Wyatt was second. Good Job, Zac!!

Rock Climbing

On Tuesday night, the YW, leaders, Bishop and Bro Evans went rock climbing. Bishop told the girls he would buy them a steak dinner if they could make it all the way to the top on a certain path on the rock wall. We had so many girls try that particular path, but none could do it. Several tried over and over again, but to no avail. So, Bishop decided to give it to the one who got the closest to the top. Megan got almost to the top, so she won it. Congrats Megan!

All the girls had a great time and realized they could do things even if those things were tough! Good job girls (and leaders) on conquering the Rock Wall!

Christmas 2008

Christmas was very quiet and slow this year. We had dinner and opened presents at Aaron's Parents' house Christmas Eve. Christmas morning, the kids woke me up at 3:30, which I was not too happy about, and I sent them all back to bed! We got back up at about 6:30 or so and opened our presents. Not too long after presents and breakfast, almost everyone went back to be except me...ah! precious quiet time!

Cameron and Zayn were up playing WII at 10:30 Saturday night. Cam was golfing and I think I have another Tiger Woods on my hands!!;) After they golfed, they bowled, and Kenzie actually woke up for that one. Apparently she's a little bowling shark at her grandma and grandpa's!

We had a grand old time at the Davis house that night!

A New Season Has Begun!

Cheyenne had her first game of the volleyball season on Wed. They played against Shepard, which is a hard team to beat. Needless to say, they lost, but not for lack of trying. They were only a few points behind each game.

I Hate Nights Like This!

Ok, so last night I was in bed asleep by 10:00. It was great! I woke up at 2:30 this morning WIDE AWAKE!!! I have no idea why. I closed all the bedroom doors and decided to go through my scrapbook stuff...again, I have no idea why! About 4:30 Cameron gets up and decides he wants to "nuggle". I told him we would for just a few minutes and then he HAS to go back to bed. We laid on the chaise and snuggled for a little bit when Brett walks in. I just KNEW that would be it for him (my early bird). He must not have seen me when he walked out or was still just asleep because he said, "Mom told us not to turn the tree on! Mom said don't touch the tree!" I told him it was ok that I turned it on, and he just kept saying we weren't supposed to touch the tree. I finally told him to go back to bed... and he said, "ok" and walked back down the hall. (At least I know he heard me about the tree, right?) Anyway, I went back to bed about 5:00 and couldn't fall asleep (isn't that the way it goes?) until about 5:45. And of course, the alarm goes off at 6:40. (Boy, I better get a nap today!!!)

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas!

Every year for the first Family Home Evening after Thanksgiving, we put up and decorate the tree. My kids get an ornament every year that represents what they like. It is fun to go back after several years and see the things they've outgrown.

The Joys of November

Ok, it has only been less than a week since I blogged, but so much has happened! Last Wednesday, (the day beforeThanksgiving) the Baywood Ward Young Women had their annual bake sale at the Scout's Turkey Pit. I woke up Wed. morning and it started raining as soon as the kids left for school...great! Michelle and I had already talked about borrowing canopies from ward members...(Thank You!!!). We showed up at the turkey pit at about 4:30 and it started sprinkling soon after. After a little bit it started to downpour. Thanks girls for staying put and helping out!! Also a great big Thank You to all the wonderful members of the Baywood Ward for making our bake sale a great success!!! We raised a whopping $453.11 to go towards Girl's Camp!!!

The next day it was Thanksgiving. We had our bake sale that day, too. Just as we were packing up to go home, it started to rain again. (Whew! missed that one!) After we went home, we put a movie on for the kids and I started making my sweet potato casserole. I then went into the bedroom and immediately fell asleep...(Thanks honey!!) We left for my in-laws shortly after and had a quiet little Thanksgiving with the GOOD CHINA!! That never happens when you get my husband's fam together. It is normally too large, but it was only my little fam and Aaron's Mom and Dad and Sister Jennifer. It was a nice Thanksgiving.

The next morning, Jennifer and I started out Black Friday shopping at 4:15. We went to Sam's Club and it was Great!! I think that will be an every Black Friday tradition. We got there, and stood in line about 30 minutes. We then went in, leisurely shopping and enjoying ourselves and then they treated us to a complimentary breakfast. (Great way to start the day!!) Then we went to Wal-Mart. I found almost everything I was looking for and NO LINES!!! It was an awesome shopping day!!

Aaron has been wanting a little girl for a long time, and he finally got her! Meet Chloe. We have been wanting a new dog, but couldn't afford one, so we were looking on Craigslist and there she was...FREE to a good home! Her owner was moving and couldn't take her. We drove out to Goodyear on Saturday and came home with her. She is still a puppy, so she has been driving Knucklehead crazy! All she wants to do is play. (He is not so happy to oblige!!) Welcome to the fam, Chloe!

Tug at the Heartstrings

Yesterday, I was reading an email from Erika. It was about Propostion 8 in California and about all the protesters and such. I was reading along and I came to a picture of some drawing on the Main Entrance sign of the Temple. I thought, "How in the world can people do such a thing to The House of The Lord?" A little while later Cameron came in and asked what the next picture was. I told him it was someone drawing on the Temple. He looked at me and asked, " Mom, why are they doing that? Don't they know that breaks Heavenly Father's heart?" I just about broke down and started crying. Here is this precious little child of God and he understands so much. I am so grateful for my children and the knowledge of the gospel that they have. I am grateful that they understand so much more than I did at their age. I know they have to be smarter in this day and age because of all they will have to deal with...but I am so glad they are mine!!

Ok, so everyone told me this was addicting...boy are y'all right!! I find myself sitting here for hours either looking through music or reading others blogs or just trying to figure out what pictures to add. I think it is so fun to "catch up" on friends lives that may have moved or you have otherwise lost touch with. Thanks for all the advice and positive comments. Y'all are great!!

Halloween

I know Halloween is already past, but here are a few of our Halloween pics. We went to Grandma and Grandpa's house first and then we went to our Ward's Trunk or Treat. Allen and Julie came to visit us at the trunk or treat and I am so glad they did! Aaron ended up working that night the whole time we were there. Allen handed out candy for me so Julie and I could take Reagan and Cameron around. Thanks Allen! The night was a success. The kids had fun and got lots of candy. This is a picture of Reagan...Isn't she adorable?!?!

Ok everyone, here it is...my first blog posting. All of you have been telling me to do this, and I finally did it! I really try to put things like this off, but I figured if I can be a mom of 4, scrapbook for everyone, take care of my YW of the Baywood Ward , and still be sane... I can do this, too!
